Summer Training: Start Working Toward Your 2018 Hunt
June 20, 2018

Whether you’re sitting on a pile of bonus points, or you’re applying for your first time, there are plenty of good reasons to submit an Arizona deer application this year.

Arizona has a ton of deer hunting opportunities. From over-the-counter hunts for Coues deer and mule deer, to high quality draw units and everything in between, you could be hunting deer in sunny Arizona this year, and still building bonus points toward a future opportunity.

Bonus Points

In Arizona, bonus points work like raffle tickets. The more you have, the greater your chances of drawing a tag. Each year that you apply and don’t draw, you’ll earn a bonus point. If you don’t want to draw a tag this year, but want to begin building points, you can apply for a point only.

If you’ve never applied in Arizona, we’d highly encourage you to begin. There’s a real advantage to begin saving a few bonus points, particularly for deer. With just a handful of points, you put yourself in position to draw some great deer tags.

If you already have several bonus points for deer, we can help you plan a memorable Arizona hunt.

Random Draw

While some tags go to applicants with the most bonus points, most licenses issued in the Arizona draw are distributed by random drawing. That means that you have a chance to draw great tags every year.

Each year in the random draw, you have a chance at drawing the tag of a lifetime. Each year that you are unsuccessful, you’ll earn a bonus point and your chances drastically improve. Unlike a preference point system where tags always go to the highest point holders, this type of bonus point system allows everyone a shot.

Don’t wait another year. It’s time to put your name in the hat!

OTC Licenses Do Not Use Bonus Points

If you decide to hunt Arizona this year by purchasing an over-the-counter archery deer tag, it will not affect your bonus points. You can apply this year and earn a bonus point, and then still go hunting on an OTC deer license.

There aren’t many other places in the west that offer this type of opportunity. Here in Arizona, you can hunt every single year, and still accumulate a bonus point every single year. While you save up some points, there’s no need to stay home.

If you’re already applying in Arizona and purchasing the $160 required hunting license, you might as well put that to use! If you don’t receive a tag in the drawing this year, come hunting on an OTC archery deer hunt.
